Create a Fur Text Style in Photoshop

In this tutorial I am going to show you how to create a furry text effect in Photoshop using my fur creator. You can obtain very good results using this 1-click action. You can add any fur texture that you want with the help of smart objects.
First you have to download the fur action from our blog. It is a free Photoshop action for all our registered users. Open the ZIP file and inside you will find an ABR file, a PAT file and an ATN file.
Go to Edit>Preset manager and load the brush file and the pattern file in Photoshop, otherwise the action will not work properly. Go to Window>Actions and choose Load Actions; these steps are made only one time, when you first download the action pack.
Open a new PSD file and add a text layer with any font type that you like. I will use the Intro Font which is a free font that you can use in your designs. Learn how to install font in Photoshop . For the action to look good you have to use a big size font. Also make sure that the Set the tracking for the selected characters option is set to 50 or 100 so that the letters to have a space between them.
Before playng the action make sure you have the Brush Tool opacity set to 100% ; this is very important thing to check!
Instead of the text layer you can use a custom shape, or a raster layer that contains both text and shape. Make sure you have only one layer, so if you have a background layer please delete it. Select one of the fur actions and click the Play action button. I will choose the fur creator by psddude(custom fur texture) action which is more versatile and easy to customize.
After the action has ended you have a raw result that you can easily edit and customize using any fur texture that you want.
Make sure you have the Fill option set to 0% for the fur layer 2 by psddude.
Time to add the texture. Double click on the add fur texture insidde layer thumbnail to open the smart object
Inside the smart object you can Copy/Paste the fur texture ; I used the zebra texture from this collection, but you can use any furry texture that you want.
You have to make sure the texture image is large enough to cover the text. If it is not, you can duplicate the image and make it larger. Save the smart object and close it to see the result.
If you want to change the texture position you have to select the two layers named add fur texture insidde(keep the CTRL key pressed and click on the layers to select them).

To select multiple noncontiguous layers, press CTRL and click (Windows) or COMMAND and click (Mac OS) in the Layers panel.

Now simply use the Move Tool to drag and drop the texture in the position that you like best.
You can add a nice looking background; for this example I used a simple leather texture
If you want to switch to other animal fur texture you can simply edit the smart object and replace the texture inside. You can not edit the text/shape after the action is ended. Open a new PSD file and open this Sky texture package and select image "sky7_2259". Go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur and set radius to 2px.
Now open the Vintage texture and set blend mode to Soft Light with opacity 48%.
Open the Space texture and blend mode set to Overlay with opacity 80%. Now create a layer mask and delete a center of image with brush tool. Also add a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer and set the Hue to 15 and the Saturation to -15 .
Now open the Dark Snow texture and create layer mask. Now use the brush tool and delete the top part of the picture. Blend mode set to Exclusion with opacity 30%.
Open the Sky image and set opacity to 30%.
Then now open the Fire sparkle texture and crop sparks as shown in the picture below. Blend mode set to Screen and use erase tool to delete edges.
Open the Girl image and place it like shown.The best way to precisely cut image is to use pen tool. Now use the brush tool with red color and brush lips, blend mode set to Soft Light and opacity 80%. Now right click on layer and click to Create Clipping Mask.
Create a new layer, right click and choose Create Clipping Mask. Now use the Mixer brush tool and set Settings as shown in the picture below. With the mixer brush tool be careful and do not make long movements; this tool is used for cleaning the face. Use the Mixer Brush Tool to retouch the skin to remove wrinkles or any other details.
Repeat the same procedure as in the previous step and create a clipping mask layer. Then go to Edit > Fill and use 50% Gray. Blend mode set to Overlay with opacity 17%. Now use the Burn tool for dark surfaces and Dodge tool for light surfaces.
Create a nw layer with clipping mask and use the Brush tool with foreground color #d89a06 and brush over the body.
Now open the Hair Stock and use Brown Hair and also open this hair image. With these images make add hair like shown in the image. You will have to make a lot of duplicates to make it look as realistic as possible. Also put hair in front and behind the Girl Layer.
Go to Image > Adjustments > Match Color and proceed as shown in the preview for the hair image. Learn more about match color in Photoshop from these quick tutorials for beginners.
Now open the Wings stock and repeat the same procedure as in the previous step, by going to Color Match.
Now add fire to the wings; blend mode must be set to Screen.
Now add Smoke in front of and behind the girl layers. Blend mode set to Screen.
Open burned paper and cut it with Pen tool. Now add the fire in the same way you added on the wings with Blend mode Screen. Make several copies as shown the picture.

Now open a Fire Sparklers Sphere and crop line. Blend mode set to Screen. Make several copies and merge them into one layer. delete some areas around the fingers using the erase tool. See picture below.

Now copy fire sparks throughout the image and set blend mode to Screen.
Open Particles002 and Particles023 from the particles pack; for 002 set blend mode to Screen and for 023 keep normal.
Open Glitter texture and set blend mode to Screen with opacity 15%.
Now open Rain Texture and go to Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation. Set the Hue to -180 and the Saturation to +16.Blend mode set to Soft Light with opacity 30% .
Go to Image>Adjustments and make the following settings:

• Photo Filter: choose Warming Filter (LBA) with Density 46%
• Curves: set opacity to 80%
• Color Lookup: set to DropBlues with opacity 60%
• Brightness/Contrast: settings -1/21 and opacity 40%
• Curves and set litle dark

Press CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+E to make a new layer with all visible layers merged and go to Filter > Other > High Pass radius set to 2px. Set blend mode to Overlay with opacity 30%.

Create Chilling Ice Text Effect in Photoshop

To complete this tutorial, you will need the following stocks:

Wall Texture

Font

Ice Texture 1

Ice Texture 2

Step 1

Create a new document sized 1200px * 700px with black background. Load the wall texture into Photoshop, select a portion and paste it onto our document:

Use a soft eraser to remove the following parts of the wall texture:

Apply the following 2 image adjustment layers on top of the wall texture layer:

Levels

and here is the effect so far – as you can see, only the centre portion is visible after we apply the adjustment layers:

We will use this as a base for our text.

Step 2

We will work on our texts and start applying the ice texture in this step. Use the font you downloaded, type some letters onto the canvas:

Load the “ice texture 1″ image into Photoshop, select the text layer and move the selection over to this texture and copy the selection:

Paste the texture back onto the texts and cover them as shown below:

Apply the following 2 adjustment layers as clipping masks to this ice texture layer:

Black and White

Levels

Repeat the above step and grab another piece of the ice texture:

Paste it onto our document and set it as a clipping mask to the “Levels” adjustment layer you added just now:

Change the blending mode of this second ice texture layer to “Hard Light”, and apply the following image adjustments:

We will add some extra ice blocks onto our image in this step. Load the “ice texture 2″ image into Photoshop and select one triangle piece:

Copy and paste it behind our text layer, reduce its size as shown below:

Repeat the above step and add a few more ice blocks onto our document:

Step 4

We will add some extra effect onto our image with the “ice texture 2″. Grab a piece from this stock image and copy it over to our document, resize it as shown below:

Apply the following adjustments to this compressed image:

Black and White

Levels

Change the layer blending mode of this layer to “Screen”:

and you will have the following effect:

Use a soft eraser to fade the edges of this layer:

and you will have the following effect:

We will add some flying ice blocks to the image. Again we grab a piece from the “ice texture 2″ image:

Copy and paste the selection over to our document, resize it to a smaller scale:

Use the blur tool to blur it a bit to add some dynamics to the image:

Repeat the above step and add a few more pieces in, make sure you vary the size and angle of each ice layer:

Step 6

We’re almost done! For some final adjustments, I put a curves adjustment layers on top to add some colours:
